Verse 3

अलमनेन परिषत्कुतूहलविमर्दकारिणा परिश्रमेण। एवमहमार्यमिश्रान् प्रणिपत्य विज्ञापयामि - यदिदं वयं मृच्छकटिकं नाम प्रकर्णं प्रयोक्तुं व्यवसिताः। एतत्कविः किल -

अलम् अनेन परिषत्-कुतूहल-विमर्द-कारिणा परिश्रमेण। एवम् अहम् आर्य-मिश्रान् प्रणिपत्य विज्ञापयामि - यत् इदम् वयम् मृच्छकटिकं नाम प्रकर्णम् प्रयोक्तुम् व्यवसिताः। एतत्-कविः किल -

Enough of an exertion that causes distraction of the curiosity of the audience.-Having saluted (these) honourable gentlemen, I will thus respectfully address them: That (here) we have undertaken to stage this play called Mrichchhaatika. It is stated that the poet, its author -

द्विरदेन्द्रगतिश्चकोरनेत्रः परिपूर्णेन्दुमुखः सुविग्रहश्च।

द्विजमुख्यतमः कविर्बभूव प्रथितः शूद्रक इत्यगाधसत्त्वः।।३।।

द्विरद-इन्द्र-गतिः चकोर-नेत्रः परिपूर्ण-इन्दु-मुखः सुविग्रहः च।

द्विज-मुख्यतमः कविः बभूव प्रथितः शूद्रकः इति अगाध-सत्त्वः।।3।।

Was a famous scholar, Sudraka by name, who was the very best of the twice-born (Kshatriyas), and of unfathomable mental calibre. His gait was like that of an excellent elephant; his eyes resembled those of a chakora bird; his face vied with the full moon (in beauty); and he possessed a handsome body.
